EDC, truly is an unforgettable experience. It’s something that anyone under 45 who is a fan of EDM(Electric Dance Music) would not only appreciate but truly cherish as a once in a lifetime experience. This was my second consecutive year attending this “massive”, and I can honestly say, that barring any major changes in philosophy or outlook, I will unquestionably be going for many years to come. Its something that you can’t experience anywhere else, and undoubtedly should be tried by all types of people, as the RAVE itself has many positive aspects to draw from.
Firstly, I will say that any time 300,000-400,000 like minded individuals come together in one place, you’re in for quite the treat. Its something that even the largest sporting events can’t quite comprehend. Being that there are always two sides to a sport/competition/event its impossible to even fathom what its like to be in the thick of things at EDC. Even if your taste in EDM music is quite different from your friends, you can rest assured, that EDC is simply life altering. Couple that with the fact that almost ALL of the WORLDS GREATEST DJ’s join in the festivities, and regularly regard this as their favorite venue’s, its hard to imagine a better place to be during the month of JUNE(that and you get to celebrate the birth of me, which is also a MUST)
As a devout fan of all things TRANCE (just google Armin Van Buuren) there are few feelings like the emotional roller-coaster that is you being with some of your closest friends whilst the story-like “build-up” comes before the “drop”. TRANCE isn’t for everyone, I would like to think it is, but some people like their music to “go hard” and make there bodies move in a ferocious manor. I will say that TRANCE is an acquired taste, one that leaves you wanting nothing else once you are properly acclimated…
The EDC experience does have some shortcomings that can easily be overlooked. One of which is the trip to and from. As you can imagine, 120,000 people going to and from ANYTHING can turn into a bit of a “shit show”. Couple that with the fact that everything in Vegas is inflated, and even more so during this event, it can become a truly EXPENSIVE shit show. Then there’s the fact that everyone has a cell phone, and is on it in hopes of reuniting and finding people during this whole event. The kicker being that due to the volume of cellular usage, its nearly impossible to get anything to work properly, which if you’ve experienced this you know, can lead to a lot of wasted time and awkward pauses. Then there was the infamous shutting down of the second night, Saturday, due to “high winds” which left patrons displaced and bewildered too say the least. Some will argue to the validity of it being shut down due to “safety precautions” but either way it happened. And looking back, as much as I was displeased in what had happened, I’m happy nobody was hurt and that the show will continue in the safest manor possible for years to come(especially given that it only takes 1 death to change the show and the venue for good).EDC Death when it was in Los Angeles Besides those few minor unsavory elements, I will say, THIS EDC SHIT IS FUCKING BREATH TAKING, and if you don’t believe me, ask anyone who went(I can’t imagine why my word wouldn’t be golden to you though….).
I hope that this short rendition of my experiences and emotions during the festivities was at the very least enough to garnish a thorough and vigorous google search of all things EDC. In the hopes that you may not only consider it next year, but will hopefully go and change your life for the better. Below are going to be a list of songs to help break you into the experience that was shared over the three days at EDC between me and my closest 120,000 friends.
